A two-time Atlantic Sun regular reason champion and former volleyball standout, Audrey Campbell enters her first second as an assistant at Florida Gulf Coast under head coach Dave Nichols, after accepting the position in August 2012. Campbell returned to her alma mater after spending the 2011 season as an assistant coach at Division II Tusculum College.
The Tampa, Fla. native, who served as FGCU’s Development Assistant for Athletic Advancement from 2009-11, will assist in all aspects of the FGCU volleyball program, including identifying, recruiting, and retention of student-athletes, conducting on-the-court coaching and tape exchange, monitoring study table and helping in department fundraising, community involvement and scheduling.
Campbell helped lead the 2012 edition of the Eagles to a 22-10 record (16-2 A-Sun), their third regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the A-Sun Tournament. During the campaign, FGCU swept 10 conference opponents and won 15 consecutive matchesas head coach Dave Nichols earned his first career A-Sun Coach of the Year honor. The Eagles’ 15-match winning streak is the longest streak in the program’s Division I history and is also the third longest streak in the FGCU record books.
In 2011, Campbell helped lead Tusculum to an 18-13 overall record and the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional (lost to No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic, 3-0). The Pioneers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive seasons and recorded their sixth straight winning campaign.
She has also served as assistant coach for the USA South Volleyball Club program where she specialized with middle position training. She has worked with numerous volleyball camps and clinics with FGCU, USA South Volleyball Club, Hillsborough Community College and the Tampa United Volleyball Club (2006-2010).
As a standout middle blocker at FGCU, Campbell helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back Atlantic-Sun regular season titles (2007, 2008). She finished second in the league in hitting percentage (.407) as a junior and earned A-Sun All-Academic honors as a senior. During her two seasons for the Green and Blue, her teams posted an impressive 43-11 overall record, including 28-3 in conference play and a remarkable 19-1 record at home.
Prior to her time as a member of the Eagles, Campbell played two seasons at Hillsborough Community College. While at HCC she led the Hawks to a FCCAA State Championship, a Gulf District Championship and a berth to the NJCAA Tournament, where her team finished 11th in the nation. It was Hillsborough’s first FCCAA State title, as the Hawks knocked off perennial state power Miami-Dade Community College.
Campbell earned both her bachelor’s degree in communication (2009) and master’s in public administration (May 2011) from Florida Gulf Coast. She also earned an associate’s degree in art from Hillsborough Community College in 2007.
