The Florida Gulf Coast women's basketball team capped a historic 2011-12 season by finishing ranked No. 4 in the final version of the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll and 37th in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.

Florida Gulf Coast University Head Women's Basketball Coach Karl Smesko has announced the signing of one student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent. Amanda Moore (Seymour, Ind./Seymour HS) will join the Eagle program for the 2012-13 academic year.

Less than three weeks after leading FGCU to its first NCAA Tournament appearance, redshirt-sophomore Sarah Hansen (McKean, Pa./General McLane HS) and senior Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio/Alter HS) were named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) Women's Scholar-Athlete Team, the organization announced on Tuesday, April. 3. The DI-AAA ADA also honored Hansen as the Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight the Scholar-Athlete Team.

Florida Gulf Coast women's basketball standout Sarah Hansen (McKean, Pa./General McLane HS) continues to collect postseason honors, earning Full Court Mid-Major All-American Honorable Mention accolades. The redshirt-sophomore was the lone player from the Atlantic Sun Conference to earn honors from Full Court.

With both programs coming off successful runs into March Madness, FGCU men's and women's basketball season tickets for the 2012-13 campaign are now on sale at the FGCU ticket office. FGCU was one of just 15 schools out of 344 in Division I that saw its men's and women's program advance to its respective Conference Tournament championship game.

No. 5 seed St. Bonaventure erased a 10-point deficit late in the second half to force overtime before defeating No. 12 seed FGCU in heartbreaking fashion, 72-65, in the first round of the Raleigh Region of the NCAA Tournament at The Tucker Center.

The 12th seeded Eagles (29-2), who have won 21 consecutive games and own the fifth best win-loss percentage in the nation, will look to win the program's first NCAA Tournament game when they take on No. 5 seed St. Bonaventure (29-3) on Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2 at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
