FGCU women defeat Flagler 69-48
Fort Myers, FL – The FGCU women’s basketball team improved to 21-1 tonight as they defeated the Lady Saints from Flagler College for the third time this season 69-48.
The game developed early just as it had the past two games of the season as both teams struggled shooting the ball. The eagles shot 30% from the floor in the first half, while the Lady Saints shot 27%.
FGCU leading scorer, Trish Fleming twisted her ankle early in the game, which seemed to slow her down quite a bit. Fleming was only 3-7 from the floor, and finished with only 8 points on the night.
Junior Center Robyn Swain was a defensive presence tonight as she earned 5 steals while scoring 15 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Swain clogged the paint all night as the Lady Saints struggled to shoot over the 6-4 center.
Rebecca Stewart had another solid performance as she scored 12 points off the bench including 4 three pointers.
Flagler was led by Blair Edwards and Sarah Smith who each scored 13 points in the losing effort.
Jill Bair continued her outstanding shooting tonight as she came off the bench and shot a perfect 3-3 from the field, good for 7 points. She is now 12 of her last 13 from the field.
FGCU will take on Warner Southern College this Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. at Alico Arena.
