Women's Basketball to host Lynn University
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team looks for its 10 straight win when it hosts Lynn University on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Alico Arena.
It will be the first game for the Eagles in seven days. FGCU won a pair of games in the Valdosta State Classic last weekend, knocking off the host Blazers, ranked 22nd, 54-47 on December 3 and then topping West Georgia 49-35 on December 4.
FGCU (9-0) can set a new mark for consecutive wins to open a season with a victory over Lynn. The Eagles won the first nine games of their inaugural season in 2002-03. The 9-0 start has begun to attract some attention. FGCU improved to 82 votes in the most recent USA TODAY ESPN DIVISION II TOP 25 COACHES’ POLL and was two votes short of cracking the national top-25 for the first time.
Lynn (5-2) posted four wins in November for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Fighting Knights are coming off a 63-49 win over Barry University in their Sunshine State Conference opener on Saturday.
FGCU will host the University of West Florida on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Alico Arena. The game can be heard live on Sports Radio 770 ESPN.
