#16 FGCU Women Beat Florida Southern 69-41
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Leading scorer Katie Schrader once again led the way as No. 16 Florida Gulf Coast University breezed past Florida Southern University 69-41 tonight in Alico Arena. FGCU improves to a 15-1, and now has a three-game winning streak, while Florida Southern falls to 5-8.
Schrader hit 6-11 in the field goal zone against the Mocs, and now is averaging five a game, with 80 collected so far this season. Schrader leads the team in total points with 235, averaging 14.7 per game and also led the team in rebounds with freshman Princess Stewart collecting nine each. Stewart also collected six points and led the team in steals with four. Senior Candy Myers hit three three-pointers and six field goals to match her seaon-high of 15 points and also was second on the team in rebounds collecting six.
FGCU scored the first five points of the game and jumped out to a 25-9 lead in the first six minutes of the game. The Eagles kept the Mocs at bay giving them only eight more points to make an 18 point lead at the half, 35-17, Schrader scored 10 points in 13 minutes of play.
The Eagles shot 39% from the floor, including 7-19 from the three-point territory, and were 10-20 from the free-throw line. FGCU forced 26 turnovers and had 11 total steals while keeping their turnovers down to 16 and let the Mocs only steal six.
The Mocs shot 24% from the field and were led by Sarah Pavelecky’s 13 points and 10 points from Carrissa Collie.
