Myers Leads Eagles To 20th Victory
LIVINGSTON, AL – The (#14) Florida Gulf Coast University women took on the University of West Alabama defeating the (8-12) Tigers 88-64.
FGCU came out early with senior Candy Myers on fire in the first half sinking four three-pointers, two of which were back to back two minutes in giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead.
At the half the Eagles were up 42-32. In the second period junior Alex Nelson got the Eagles started, sinking a three-pointer after a steal by senior Ebonie Halliburton. The Eagles outscored the Tigers yet again in the second half dispite West Alabama's eight point run in the last three minutes.
Four Eagles landed double digits in scoring with Myers as the point leader posting 21 total. She scored seven field-goals and seven three pointers in 35 minutes of court action. Junior Jen Conely was second on the team in scoring with 17 points collected followed by season scoring leader junior Katie Scrader with 16. Halliburton posted ten points with six rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
Freshman Princess Stewart led the team in rebounds collecting nine, posting nine points, five assists and three steals.
As a team the Eagles shot 55 percent from the field and 52 percent from the three point range. They scored 15 out of 29 three's total and shot 70 percent from the free-throw line.
West Alabama was led by Veronica Lee's 12 points.
FGCU (20-1) will travel to Florence, Alabama to play North Alabama February 1st at 6:00 pm (CST).
