FGCU Women Ranked 12th in Nation

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team is ranked No. 12 in this week’s USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday night. FGCU improved to 20-1 with a pair of victories in the past week. The Eagles beat Florida Memorial 62-36 last Tuesday and defeated West Alabama 88-64 on Monday night. The Eagles conclude their six-game road trip with a game at North Alabama this evening. Their next home game is Saturday night against Palm Beach Atlantic. Washburn (20-0) received 21 of the 25 first-place votes to remain No. 1. The University of North Dakota - Grand Forks (23-0) received three first-place votes and holds the second spot. Emporia State (19-1) is third. Saint Cloud State (19-1) and Drury (18-1) remain fourth and fifth. FGCU, with 308 total points in the voting, jumped two places in this week’s poll. It marks the highest national ranking in the program's history. Five South Region teams are represented in the national poll. Rollins (17-0) moved up one spot to No.9, Henderson State (17-2) is up one spot to No. 10, while Delta State jumped two spots to No.11, just 30 points ahead of FGCU. Fort Valley State (17-1) moved three places to No. 17. The USA Today ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 27 head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The week three NCAA Division II regional rankings will be released Wednesday afternoon.
