Women's Basketball No. 12 in New National Poll

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team moved up one spot to No.12 in this week’s USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon. FGCU (23-1), which has won 11 consecutive games, has been idle since February 6. They are back in action on Friday, February 17 when they travel to Palm Beach Atlantic for a 7 p.m. game. Washburn (24-0) received 23 of the 26 first-place votes to continue No. 1. The Blues have now won 43 straight games to set the second-longest winning streak in NCAA Division II history. The University of North Dakota - Grand Forks (27-0) received three first-place votes and holds the second spot. Drury (22-1) is third, Saint Cloud State (22-2) is now fourth and Emporia State (21-2) is fifth. Two West Virginia schools, Glenville State (22-1) and the University of Charleston (22-2), are ranked sixth and seventh respectively. Western Washington (21-1), Rollins (22-0) and Delta State (21-1) round out the top 10 teams this week. The USA Today ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 27 head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The next NCAA Division II regional rankings will be released Wednesday afternoon.
