FGCU opened the contest with a 16-4 run, that was capped by an Ashley Haegele (Imperial. Mo.) three-pointer with 13:50 left in the half. In the second half the Lady Colonels continued to increase their defensive pressure by throwing a full-court press at the Eagles. FGCU handled the press and were able to tie the score at 46-46 with 9:48 left in the game, but EKU finished the game with a 28-10 run and won by final score of 74-56.
FGCU will hit the road for its next five games. The Eagles road slate starts Friday, Nov. 30 when they meet Bowling Green State University, a 2007 Sweet Sixteen team, in the first round of the Cornell Classic. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
