Eagle Women Head To UCF for Sunday Contest

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Looking for its third victory as a Division I program, the FGCU women's basketball team (2-4) returns to action tomorrow night against Central Florida(4-4) at the UCF Arena in Orlando. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out for the Eagles: Eagles Fall 78-52 at Florida
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Adrianne McNally scored 15 points as the FGCU women's basketball team fell to the Florida Gators at the Stephen C. O’Connell Arena, by the final score of 78-52.
The Eagles fall to 2-4 overall, while the Gators improve to 5-4.
For the game, the Eagles shot 32.8 percent, connecting on 19-of-58 attempts from the field. McNally’s (Howell, Mich.) 15 points led the Eagles offensive attack. McNally shot 6-of-12 (50 percent) from the field and 3-of-3 (100 percent) from the charity stripe, while also adding five rebounds and a two steals.
Chelsea Dermyer (Fort Collins, Col.) scored 14 points and pulled down four rebounds. Delia De La Torre (Las Cruces, N.M.) finished with 10 points and snagged four rebounds.
Aneika Henry and Depree Bowden led Florida with 17 points and 16 points, respectively. Henry shot 8-of-8 (100 percent) from the field and added five rebounds and three blocks, while Bowden shot 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from the floor. For the game, the Gators collectively shot 57.4 percent (31-of-54) from the field, including 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from long-distance.
The first half proved to be a tough one for the Eagles. FGCU struggled offensively, shooting only 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from the floor and 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from behind the three-point line in the first half. The Eagles also committed 10 first half turnovers, which the Gators capitalized on and turned into 12 points. FGCU did most of their damage from the perimeter, as they were only able to score eight points in the paint and registered zero second chance and zero fast break points.
The Eagles stormed out of the gate to begin the second half, opening the half on a 5-0 run to make the score 33-27 and forced the Gators to call a 30 second timeout at the 18:57 mark. Florida would answer FGCU’s run with a quick 12-4 run of their own to make the score 45-29 and kill the Eagles momentum. The Gators would increase their lead to as many as 28 points before winning by the final score of 78-52.

Last Time Out: vs Miami (12/2) - The UCF women’s basketball team’s second-half rally fell short as the Knights dropped a Sunday afternoon contest to Miami, 64-56, at the BankUnited Center. D’Nay Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) paced the Black and Gold with 15 points, while Jelisa Caldwell (Macon, Ga.) and Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y.) each added 11 points.
The Knights (4-4) shot .800 from the free throw line, which included a perfect 8-for-8 performance from Daniels at the charity stripe. UCF also shot .440 from behind the arch, with White and Caldwell nailing three a piece.
Miami (4-3) opened the game on a 14-2 run, before Caldwell and Angelica Mealing (Decatur, Ga.) hit back-to-back three-pointers making the score 16-8 with 12:42 left in the half.
Three consecutive baskets by Lewis cut the Hurricanes lead to only one, 22-21, with under three minutes to go, but the Hurricanes answered back with four buckets to extend its lead to eight. The Knights trailed 30-22 entering the locker room.
In the opening period, Lewis and Caldwell paced the Black and Gold with six points a piece, while Mealing added five. The Knights had 16 of its 22 first half points scored off the bench.
Caldwell nailed another three-pointer in the second half to pt the Knights within two, 53-51, and a layup by White tied the score 53-53, the first tie of the game.
