FGCU Travels to Stetson Saturday Afternoon

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women's basketball team will head to DeLand, Fla. to face Stetson in the first game of a double-header Saturday afternoon. The game can be seen live on A-Sun.TV and tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

Last Time vs. Stetson (Jan. 12, 2008)

Delia De La Torre scored a game-high 19 points as the Eagles defeated Stetson 65-44 on Saturday night to secure the program’s first Atlantic Sun conference victory.

FGCU shot 9-of-18 (50 percent) from the field and 4-of-10 (40 percent) from three-point range in the first half and held the Hatters to only 36 percent (9-of-25) from the field and 20 percent (1-of-5) from behind the arc. The Eagles also forced Stetson into 12 first half turnovers, while committing only nine first half miscues.

In the second half, the Eagles continued their hot shooting, pulled away from Stetson and secured the program’s first A-Sun victory by outscoring the Hatters 36-25 in the half to win by the final of 65-44.

FCGU was led by De La Torre and fellow senior Chelsea Dermyer (Fort Collins, Col.). De La Torre (Las Cruces, N.M) shot 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) from the field and 1-of-2 (50 percent) from long-distance. De La Torre also added four rebounds and two steals. Dermyer played another solid game at the point guard position for the Eagles by registering 13 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.
