Eagles Smash Ospreys on Senior Day
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Chelsea Dermyer scored a game-high 17 points and Delia De La Torre recorded a double-double as the FGCU women's basketball team defeated UNF 70-39.
After pulling ahead 5-2, in the first 3:02 of the game and never trailing during the contest, the Eagles shot 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the floor, including 37.8 percent (17-of-45) from the three-point line, to stay ahead and defeat the Ospreys for their 13th win in their last 14 games. The Eagles 17 made 3-pointers ranks tied-3rd all-time (team single game), while FGCU's 45 attempts ranks as the most 3-pointers the Eagles have ever taken in a single game.
With the win, FGCU improves to 18-8 overall (13-3 A-Sun), while UNF falls to 13-16 overall (8-8 A-Sun).
Three Eagles scored in double-figures, led by Dermyer's (Fort Collins, Col.) 17points. For the game, Dermyer made 5-of-11 attempts from 3-point range. She also had five assists and two steals. Delia De La Torre (Las Cruces, N.M.) recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 and 10 rebounds. De La Torre also added two assists, two steals and two blocks. Ashley Haegele (Imperial, Mo.) finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Amanda Pierce (Altoona, Pa.) chipped in with six points, three rebounds and three assists.
UNF was led by Juliemay Syquio's nine points.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, Mar. 6 when they will participate in the National Independent Tournament in McAllen, Tex.
