FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women's basketball team extended their winning streak to four games with a 70-36 victory over the visiting Big Red of Cornell. The Eagles were led by Kelsey Jacobson and Chelsea Lyles, each of whom scored 14 points in the victory.

FGCU jumped out in front early, opening the game on a 13-2 run, including 2 layups from Adrianne McNally. The Eagles would maintain a large lead throughout the first half, mostly due to some hard work on the glass; FGCU outrebounded the Big Red in the first half, 24-17, including 13 offensive boards. FGCU also played tough defense, forcing Cornell into 15 turnovers in the first half. Chelsea Lyles (12 points) and Kelsey Jacobson (10 points) each reached double-figures in scoring in the first half for the Eagles, as FGCU held a 38-17 lead at the break.

The Eagles continued their strong play in the second half, again starting the period well. FGCU outscored Cornell 14-3 to start the second half to extend the lead to 52-20. FGCU would slow the pace down for the rest of the game, eventually putting away the Big Red by a score of 70-36.

For the Big Red (4-5), Shanna Scarselletta led the way with 9 points, in addition to 4 rebounds. Allie Munson pulled down a team-high 6 boards and added 4 points.

For the Eagles (8-2), Kelsey Jacobson and Chelsea Lyles each led all scorers with 14 points, with Lyles also pulling down 7 rebounds. Adrianne McNally scored 10 points, pulled down a game-high 10 boards, and dished out a game-high 4 assists. Shannon Murphy also registered 4 assists in addition to scoring 6 points.

The Eagles hit the road for their next two games, both in Nashville, Tennessee. First the Eagles will visit Lipscomb on Saturday, January 3rd, at 3:00 PM. Then on Monday, January 5th, FGCU will take on Belmont at 6:00 PM. The Eagles land back at home on Thursday, January 8th, as part of another Eagle Hoops doubleheader. The women will take on East Tennessee State at 5:00 PM, followed by the men doing battle with Stetson at approximately 7:15 PM.
