Women's Basketball Receives a Vote in the Top 25
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women’s basketball team received a vote in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
The Eagles have never earned a vote in a Division 1 national poll.
"It is an honor to be mentioned in the same release with the best teams in college basketball," said Head Coach Karl Smesko. "Our team has played very well this season and deserves the recognition. We need to keep the momentum going as we wait to hear who our opponent in the WNIT will be."
Regular season champion FGCU recently earned its initial First-Team selections in school history as junior Adrianne McNally and junior Chelsea Lyles earned honors averaging 14.4 points and 13.9, respectively, good for fourth and sixth in the A-Sun.

FGCU’s Karl Smesko claimed a regular season conference crown for the first time in the program’s existence as his squad amassed a 17-3 conference mark earning him Coach of the Year. The 2007 NCAA Division II national runner-up, the Eagles have earned their second WNIT bid in as many years of eligibility.
The Eagles are waiting to see where and when they will be playing in the WNIT. The WNIT field will be announced the evening of the NCAA Tournament selections, on Monday, March 16.
