FORT MYERS, Fla. – Eglah Griffin, a 5’9 guard from Seminole Community College in Sanford, Fla., has signed on as the newest member of the FGCU women's basketball program, head coach Karl Smesko announced.

“Eglah had a great career at Fort Myers Dunbar and a very good freshman year at Seminole Community College,” said Smesko. “I expect she will continue that success at FGCU. Eglah has good skills and athleticism and is a good addition to our program.”

A four-year varsity starter at Dunbar High School in Fort Myers, Fla., Griffin finished her high school career with multiple career accolades. She was a four-time Lee County Athletic Conference team selection, a two-time All-State selection, and a First Team All-Southwest Florida selection in 2008.

The Fort Myers, Fla. native comes to FGCU after playing one season at Seminole Community College where she played for head coach Maureen Smith. While at Seminole CC, Griffin averaged 17 points, 1.8 steals, shot 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range, which ranked her top-30 in the region.

Griffin joins Sarah Hansen and Chrissy Rivette, as newcomers. Hansen, an Edinboro, Pa. native, finished her high school career with 1,299 points and a school record 984 career rebounds. She averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.5 steals while shooting 42 percent from the field for the General McLane Lancers, who went 26-2 and won their second straight district title last season. Rivette, of Fenton, Mich., made over 200 3-pointers while shooting 47 percent behind the arc. She averaged 19 points and nine rebounds last season.

Smesko and the Eagles had great success this season with an A-Sun Regular Season Championship and a 26-5 record. FGCU advanced to the second round of the WNIT for the second consecutive year before losing in overtime to eventual champion USF.
