Women's Basketball Ranked No. 7 in Mid-Major Top 25

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 7 spot for the second consecutive week in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening. The Eagles started the season ranked No. 14 in the preseason mid-major poll.

Green Bay, Old Dominion, Arkansas-Little Rock, Gonzaga, Princeton and Illinois State are the only squads ranked higher than the Eagles.

The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.

The Blue and Green are one of two Atlantic Sun Conference teams represented in this week’s Top 25. The 2010 A-Sun champs ETSU picked up 205 points to earn the No. 17 spot in the poll.

In their second game of the season last week, junior Kelsey Jacobson (Barnesville, Minn./Moorhead HS) scored a game-high 17 points as the Eagles defeated Troy, 60-48, on Sunday afternoon at Alico Arena. The win extended the Eagles home winning streak to 26-games, which is the third longest current home winning streak in the nation behind UConn and Stanford.

The Blue and Green will hit the floor next in Cancun, Mexico at the Caribbean Classic on Nov. 25 and 27. The Eagles will face Virginia Tech (4-0 overall) on Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. ET and will take on the Lady Griz of Montana (2-2 overall) on Nov. 27 at 10:30 am ET.
