Tuesday, November 30, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 3 spot in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening. The Eagles moved up four spots from last week’s No. 7 ranking.

Green Bay and Old Dominion are the only squads ranked higher than the Eagles.

The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.

The Blue and Green are one of two Atlantic Sun Conference teams represented in this week’s Top 25. The 2010 A-Sun champs ETSU picked up 122 points to earn the No. 20 spot in the poll.

In their two games at the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun, Mexico the Eagles picked up wins over ACC foe Virginia Tech and 17-time Big Sky champ Montana. The win over VT gave the Eagles their first win over a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Eagles have now defeated two BCS schools already this season (Seton Hall, Virginia Tech).

The Eagles (4-0 overall) are back in action Thursday, December 2 when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to face UNF in the first game of a doubleheader with men’s squad. Tip-off for the women’s game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at UNF Arena and can be heard live at www.FGCUAthletics.com.
