Women's Basketball Earns Votes in ESPN/USA Today Poll
FORT MYERS, Fla. - One of four one-loss teams remaining in Division I (UConn, Baylor, Green Bay), the FGCU women’s basketball team received six votes to rank No. 33 in this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll that was released on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
This marks the ninth consecutive week that the Eagles have earned votes the national poll. FGCU, who leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (11.1), earned six votes last week (Feb. 1) to rank No. 32.
In their last outing, junior and reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio/Alter HS) posted a 13-point, 10-rebound and nine-assist performance and all five FGCU starters scored in double figures as the Eagles defeated ETSU, 81-65, at Alico Arena in the A-Sun/CSS Game of the Week. The Blue and Green, who lead the nation in three-point field goals per game (11.1), knocked down 15 trey balls on the night. FGCU’s defense forced ETSU into 23 turnovers and went on to score 28 points off of the Bucs miscues.
The Eagles will return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they take on the Bears of Mercer (1-21, 1-12 A-Sun) in Macon, Ga. Tip is set for 2 p.m. and the game can be seen live ASun.TV.
