Chelsea Dermyer Named One Of CollegeInsider.com's Top 25 Mid-Major Assistants
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast’s Chelsea Dermyer has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Mid-Major women’s college basketball assistant coaches in the nation, according to the website CollegeInsider.com. The list took into account a variety of factors including an assistant coach's work ethic, servant's mentality, reputation amongst peers, longevity and success with the program, reliability, attention to detail, recruiting skills, basketball knowledge and future potential.
The article was penned by Jason Belzer, who wrote of Dermyer: " The former Florida Gulf Coast standout player joined the coaching ranks in 2008 and has since been instrumental in developing four first-team and two second-team All-Conference players. During the 2010-11 season, Dermyer helped lead the Eagles to the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title and an automatic bid to the WNIT, after posting a 28-4 overall record."
Dermyer was listed as No. 21 on the list. She was the only coach from the Atlantic Sun Conference to make the list.
The top five included Lori Bodnar of Kent State, Jennifer Roos of Bowling Green, Misti Cussen of Oral Roberts, Jodie Kaczor Berry of Gonzaga and Megan Gebbia of Marist.
Dermyer, who has been a player or a coach for the Green and Blue since 2005, is currently in her fourth season as a member of head coach Karl Smesko’s coaching staff.
Dermyer has helped guide the Eagles to a 1-1 record to start the 2011-12 season. FGCU returns to the court on Saturday, Nov. 19 when they welcome Michigan State (2-1) to Alico Arena for the 2011-12 home opener. Tip is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
