Jacobson's Sharp Shooting Leads FGCU to an 88-60 Win Over ETSU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior Kelsey Jacobson (Barnesville, Minn./Moorhead HS) drained eight three-pointers, tying the FGCU all-time single game record, as the Eagles opened Atlantic Sun play with an 88-60 win over ETSU (0-8, 0-2 A-Sun) Saturday night at Alico Arena.
Jacobson, who shot 8-of-12 from long range, is tied for first place in the FGCU (5-1, 1-0 A-Sun) record books for three-pointers made in a single game with former Eagles Candy Myers and Jen Conely.
The Eagles, who lead the nation in three-point field goals per game (13.5), have drained double digit three-pointers in five of their six games this season and now have 81 triples as a team. Six different players made at least one trey for the Green and Blue, led Jacobson’s career-best 8-of-12 night.
Jacobson finished with a game-high 24 points, three assists and three rebounds in 32 minutes. Senior Nicoya Jackson (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs HS/Southwestern Christian) poured in 20 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. Senior Courtney Chilhil (Tipp City, Ohio/Alter HS) chipped in with 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Leading ETSU, 20-17, with 9:12 remaining in the opening half, the Eagles used a 20-5 run, highlighted by four three-pointers from Jacobson, to grab an 18-point lead, 40-22, heading into the locker room at the intermission.
The Bucs were limited to just 8-of-33 (24.2 percent) from the field and 3-of-9 (33.3 percent) from behind the arc in the first half.
FGCU hit 13-of-31 (41.9 percent) from the floor in the first half, including 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) from long distance.
In the second half, FGCU continued to bury shots from everywhere and increased their lead to as many as 28 points, before taking down the Bucs by the final of 88-60.
ETSU was limited to just 25-of-80 (31.3 percent) from the field and 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) from behind the arc in the first half.
FGCU hit 28-of-65 (43.1 percent) from the floor on the night, including 16-of-37 (43.2 percent) from long distance.
The Eagles return to the court Thursday, Dec. 8 for a non-conference contest at UCF. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
