Women's Basketball Picks Up Four Votes in the AP Top 25
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women’s basketball team received four votes to rank No. 38 in this week’s AP Top 25 that was released on Monday, Jan. 23.
This marks the first time this season and the eighth time in program history that the Eagles have garnered votes in the national poll. The last time FGCU, who leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (11.9), received a vote in the AP Poll was on Jan. 17, 2011 (one vote to rank No. 38).
In their last outing, the Eagles, despite recording season-lows in both field goal percentage (17-of-60; 28.3 percent) and three-point percentage (7-of-31; 22.6 percent), snapped Stetson’s 12-game home winning streak with a hard-fought, 59-55, win over the Hatters at the Edmunds Center on Saturday, Jan. 21. FGCU’s win dealt Stetson their first home defeat since they fell 80-62 to ETSU on Feb. 5, 2011, gave the Eagles a two-game lead over the second place Hatters in the A-Sun standings and also gave the Green and Blue their best start to open A-Sun competition in program history (9-0).
FGCU will return to the court on Thursday, Jan. 26, when they host the Mercer Bears (3-17, 1-8 A-Sun). Tip off at Alico Arena is set for 7:05 p.m.
