Women's Basketball Picks Up Eight Votes in the AP Top 25
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women’s basketball team received eight votes to rank No. 34 in this week’s AP Top 25 that was released on Monday, Jan. 30.
This marks the second time this season and the ninth time in program history that the Eagles have garnered votes in the national poll. Last week, FGCU, who leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (11.5), received four votes to rank No. 38 in the poll.
In their last outing, Eglah Griffin (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar HS/Seminole CC), Whitney Knight (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds HS) and Sarah Hansen (McKean, Pa./General McLane HS) each scored in double figures as the Green and Blue defeated a scrappy Kennesaw State squad, 58-51, to pick up their 11th consecutive victory and clinch the program’s first-ever spot in the A-Sun Tournament.
Winners of 11 consecutive games, the Eagles will now head to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on UNF (8-14, 5-6 A-Sun) and Jacksonville (7-15, 5-6 A-Sun). FGCU will face the Ospreys on Feb. 2 (7:00 pm), before taking on the Dolphins on Feb. 4 (1:00pm).
