FORT MYERS, Fla. - Freshman Whitney Knight (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds HS) helped lead FGCU to a pair of conference victories last week, and for her performances, she claimed her first career A-Sun Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

For the week, Knight averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 assists, while shooting 50 percent from the field.

In FGCU's 92-55 win over Mercer on Jan. 26 Knight finished 12 points, four rebounds, four blocks and two assists in 20 minutes.

Just two days later, in just 19 minutes off the bench, Knight scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished two assists and registered a block as the Green and Blue defeated a scrappy Kennesaw State squad, 58-51, to pick up their 11th consecutive victory and clinch the program’s first-ever spot in the A-Sun Tournament

The Eagles (19-2, 11-0 A-Sun) will now head to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on UNF and Jacksonville. FGCU will face the Ospreys on Feb. 2 (7:00 pm), before taking on the Dolphins on Feb. 4 (1:00pm).
