Clarke's Record 38 Points Rallies FGCU Past Molloy College

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Senior forward Andrea Clarke exploded for a school-record 38 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast University to an 83-74 come-from-behind victory over Molloy College of New York Saturday afternoon at Rubin Arena on the campus of Palm Beach Atlantic. Molloy held a 39-36 lead at the half but FGCU tied the game at 44-44 at the 16:48 mark. The Eagles then took their first lead since scoring the first basket of the contest with 12:34 remaining at 50-49. The Lady Lions then went on a 9-0 run to regain the lead to lead 58-50. After the Lions went up 65-58, the Eagles ended the game on a 25-9 run, holding the Lions without a field goal for the final 5:34 of the game, taking the lead for good with 3:42 to play. Clarke(Guelph, Ontario), who now has 62 points in the past two games, connected on 15-of-25 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the free throw line for the Eagles, now 7-3 and winners of three straight. She also grabbed nine rebounds. Clarke topped Trish Fleming’s old scoring mark of 35 against Indiana-South Bend on December 17, 2002. Clarke and Fleming are the only Eagles players to score 30 or more points in a game. Clarke’s 15 field goals made and 25 attempts are also both new records. Junior forward Andrea Holbrook (Jeffersonville, IN) continued her steady play with her first career double-double, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Jennifer Santana (Pembroke Pines, FL) added 12 points. Molloy, 1-5, was led by 18 points from Rose Bruno and 17 points from Randi Bender. The Eagles held Lions star guard and leading scorer Donna Lohrey to just seven points. FGCU is back in action from December 21-22 with the FGCU Holiday Classic. The Eagles will host Goldey Beacom on Tuesday at 5:30 pm and Valdosta State on Wednesday at 1:00 pm.
