FORT MYERS, FL – Four players scored in double figures as the Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team knocked off Warner Southern 89-48 Tuesday night at Alico Arena for its fifth straight victory.
Junior guard Candy Myers (New Batavia, OH) led the way with a game-high 18 points, hitting 6-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. Myers has now hit at least one 3-point field goal in 25 straight games.
Junior forward Jennifer Santana (Pembroke Pines, FL) added a season-high 17 points, senior forward Andrea Clarke (Guelph, Ontario) 13 points and freshman forward Amber Bishko (Orlando, FL) pitched in with 10 points. Clarke and Bishko added eight rebounds apiece for FGCU.
FGCU raced out to a 45-20 halftime lead behind 13 points from Clarke and 11 points from Myers. The Eagles also hit 20 consecutive free throws during the game, finishing 23-of-26 from the free throw line. FGCU extended its winning streak to five games against Warner Southern.
Warner Southern (9-10) was led by Juanita Jurand and Katie Mack with 16 points each.
FGCU returns to action on Saturday, January 22 when it host Florida Memorial at Alico Arena at 7 p.m.
