FORT MYERS, FL – Junior guard Ebonie Halliburton scored 17 points to lead the Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team to an easy 69-36 victory over Converse College at Alico Arena Saturday night.
Haliburton (East St. Louis, IL) was one of nine players to reach the scoring column, as FGCU (16-7) snapped a two-game losing skid. The Eagles jumped out to a 19-1 lead early in the game and held the All-Stars to 19% shooting in the opening half, building two leads over 30 points before settling for a 39-12 halftime advantage.
Freshman forward Jessica Hathaway (Fort Wayne, IN) had nine points while freshman forward Amber Bishko (Orlando, FL) and junior guard Candy Myers (New Batavia, OH) added eight points each. Myers extended her consecutive game streak of made three-point field goals to 30.
The 36 points were the fewest allowed by the Eagles this season, as they held the All-Stars to just 27% percent shooting from the floor while forcing 27 turnovers.
The two teams match-up again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Alico Arena as the Eagles continue their five-game homestand.
