Game Preview: Women's Basketball – vs. Kentucky State
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team looks for its fifth straight win to open the season when it hosts Kentucky State on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Eagles won a pair of games over the University of Puerto Rico – Cayey on Tuesday and Wednesday after opening the season with two wins in the 4th Annual Hillmyer-Tremont Tip-Off Classic last weekend.
FGCU opened the season with 10 new faces, but returned four players that started at least eight games in 2004-05. Through the first week of the season, the new look Eagles have looked impressive.
The Eagles have scored at least 78 points in each of their first four games, including 100+ on two occasions, including a school-record 109 points on Tuesday against Cayey. Each of FGCU’s first four wins were over schools from Puerto Rico, each an NCAA Division II South Region independent like FGCU. In fact, the first 17 games this season will all be against South Region opponents.
The top eight teams in each of eight geographical regions will advance to the NCAA Division II championship tournament in March.

Florida Gulf Coast Notables: Junior forward Jen Conely has scored in double figures in all four games, including 36 points on Tuesday, the second highest single-game total in FGCU’s four-year history...Junior forward Katie Schrader and senior guard Ebonie Halliburton have scored in double figures three times...Both Schrader and Halliburton have recorded one double-double this year (points/rebounds)...Freshman guard Princess Stewart has had a game-high and led the team in four different statistical categories: assists, rebounds, steals and blocked shots...FGCU is averaging 95 points per game…The Eagles are shooting 45% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line.
