Game Preview: Women's Basketball – vs. North Alabama
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The high-flying Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team plays its sixth game in nine days when they host the University of North Alabama on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles (5-0) look to extend their winning streak, all against NCAA Division II regional opponents, when the meet the Lions (2-2) at Alico Arena at 2 p.m. FGCU is coming off an 80-40 win over Kentucky State on Friday while UNA topped KSU 74-55 on Saturday. It’s the first of two meetings between the teams. FGCU will travel to Florence, Ala. as part of a six-game road trip on February 1.
The Eagles have scored at least 80 points in four of their first five games, and have held the opposition under 40 points in four games. North Alabama has lost their two games by a combined total of 16 points.
FGCU hits the road for three games after today. The Eagles will travel to Florida Southern on Tuesday, November 29 before heading north to play in the Valdosta State tournament next weekend. The Eagles face Valdosta State on Saturday, December 3 and West Georgia on Sunday, December 4.

Florida Gulf Coast Notables: Senior forward Candy Myers scored 18 points to lead FGCU to an 80-40 win over Kentucky State on Friday night for its fifth straight win…Myers now has 671 career points, four behind Robyn Swain (’04) for second on the all-time scoring list…She made her 150th career 3-pointer against Kentucky State…Three players have scored in double figures in at least four games: Katie Schrader, Jen Conely and Alex Nelson…Both Nelson and Conely had their streaks snapped against Kentucky State…Conely leads the team with 16.8 points per game while Schrader averages 15 ppg…The Eagles are shooting 43.8% from the field, including 38.7% from three-point territory, but are shooting just 68.7% from the foul line…FGCU averages 92 points per game…Myers had 25 points, including a then school-record seven three-pointers, to lead FGCU past UNA last January.
