FGCU Women Now 16th in National Poll

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team has jumped to No. 16 in the latest USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 women's basketball poll released late Tuesday. FGCU went 2-0 last week, defeating both Eckerd College and the University of Montevallo in the 3rd Annual FGCU Women’s Holiday Classic to move up four places from the Dec. 20 poll. The Eagles are now 14-1. Washburn (13-0) remains at No. 1, followed by the University of North Dakota- Grand Forks (16-0) and Emporia State (13-0). Drury (11-1) and the University of Charleston (10-0) round out this week’s top five. FGCU, which received 178 total points in the voting, was one of four South Region teams represented in the poll. Henderson State (10-1) remains eighth while Rollins (9-0) stayed at No. 11. Valdosta State (8-3) dropped to No. 21. The USA Today ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 27 head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The first NCAA Division II regional rankings will be released later this month.
