FGCU Women Ranked No. 4 in South Region

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee has released this week's Division II women's basketball regional rankings. The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team is ranked fourth in the initial South Region rankings. The top eight teams in each of the eight NCAA Division II regions at the end of the season receive bids to the 64-team national championship tournament. To be considered for the national tournament, each team must play at least 16 games against teams within its region. FGCU, which is currently 16-1 in the region, will play 20 games against South Region opponents. The top 10 teams in each region are included in each ranking. The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through March 1. The Eagles are also currently ranked No. 14 in this week USA TODAY / ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday night and have been ranked nationally in each of the past six weeks. Five teams in the South Region top-10 are ranked nationally, including Henderson State, Delta State, Rollins and Valdosta State. South Region Rankings (as of 1/18/06) 1. Henderson State 2.
