FGCU Women Remain 14th in D-II National Poll
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team remained No. 14 in the Week 8 USA TODAY / ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released today by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
FGCU won a pair of games on the road last week, knocking off Columbia Union College (71-59) and the University of District Columbia (71-66) to improve to 18-1 overall. The Eagles continue their six-game road trip with a game at Florida Memorial on Tuesday night
Washburn (18-0) received 22 of 25 first-place votes to remain No. 1. The University of North Dakota - Grand Forks (22-0) picked up three first-place votes to hold the second spot. Emporia State (18-1), Saint Cloud State (17-1) and Drury (16-1) round out this week’s top five. FGCU had 275 points to hold the No. 14 spot for the second straight week.
Six South Region teams are represented in the national poll. Rollins (15-0), one of five unbeaten teams left in Division II, held down the No. 10 spot. Henderson State (16-2) dropped three places to No. 11, Delta State (16-1) moved up two spots to leap over FGCU at No. 13, Fort Valley State (14-1) is No. 20 while Valdosta State (13-5) is No. 23.
The USA Today ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 27 head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
The Eagles were ranked fourth in the initial NCAA Division II regional rankings released last week.
