FGCU Women Ranked No. 5 in South Region

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee has released the second weekly Division II women's basketball regional rankings. Despite the sixth-best winning percentage in the nation and the most regional victories of any team, the Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team dropped one place to fifth in the South Region. The top eight teams in each of the eight NCAA Division II regions at the end of the season receive bids to the 64-team national championship tournament. To be considered for the national tournament, each team must play at least 16 games against teams within its region. FGCU, which is currently 16-1 in the region, will play 20 games against South Region opponents. The top 10 teams in each region are included in each ranking. The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through March 1. The Eagles remain No. 14 in this week USA TODAY / ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday night and have been ranked nationally in each of the past six weeks. Six teams in the South Region are ranked nationally; No. 7 Rollins (10th), No. 1 Henderson State (11th), No. 2 Delta State (12th), No. 4 Fort Valley State (20th) and No. 9 Valdosta State (23rd).
