FGCU Lands Victory Over North Alabama

FLORANCE, AL – At game time the Florida Gulf Coast University women found themselves in North Alabama territory. The Lions came out strong to push a 6-0 lead over the Eagles, but it didn’t take long for FGCU to step up and claim their 21st victory 83-57. The 12th ranked (21-1) Eagles ended the first half up by 22 points, allowing the (3-17) Lions to only four points in the last ten minutes of the first round. In the second half, North Alabama made a strong push scoring 37 points to FGCU’s 41. It didn’t phase the Eagles as they matched them point to point to maintain their strong lead. Three Eagles scored in double-digits with veteran junior Katie Schrader leading the way with 19 points. Schrader also led her team on defense with eight total rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Two other Eagles who followed suite on the court, were junior Jen Conely and senior Candy Myers. Conely scored 17 points which included five three’s, two steals and three rebounds. Myers collected 13 points, three assists and two steals. The Eagles shot 50 percent overall in field goal range, 47 percent in three-point range and 60 percent from the free-throw line. They collected 31 total rebounds as a team and caused 29 turnovers for the Lions allowing only 16 of their own Leading scorers for North Alabama were India Hackman and Amber Rutherford who scored 19 points each. The fifth regionally ranked Eagles, look to take on Palm Beach Atlantic University at home in Alico Arena, on Saturday February 4th at 7:00 pm.
