FORT MYERS, Fla. - Adrianne McNally led the Eagles with 19 points and earned Tournament MVP honors as the FGCU women’s basketball team defeated Memphis in the championship game of the FGCU Holiday Classic 71-49 in Alico Arena.

The Eagles improve to 5-5 overall, while the Tigers fall to 3-8.

Memphis jumped on the Eagles early by jumping out to an 18-12 lead with 10:20 left to play in the opening half. FGCU responded with a quick 15-0 run that gave them a 27-18 lead and they never looked back. FGCU continued to pull away and went into the locker room at the half with a 33-24 lead.

In the second half, the Eagles continued their dominance on the offensive end and locked down on defense, which forced the Tigers into taking bad shots with the shot clock running down. The Eagles spread the wealth on the offensive end as four different players scored in double-digits.

For the game, the Eagles shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the field and continued their success from long range by knocking down six three-pointers. McNally (Howell, Mich.) drained 6-of-11 shots from the field, shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe and registered six rebounds and four assists to go along with her game-high 19 points. Delia De La Torre (Las Cruces, N.M) and Shannon Murphy (Brighton, Mich.) both finished with 13 points. Mandi Pierce (Altoona, Pa.) chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block. Pierce also earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 11.5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals over the two games of the tourney.

Jessica Hall and Ashley Thornton led the Tigers with 16 points and seven points, respectively. Thornton, who was named to the All-Tournament team added eleven rebounds and an assist. Memphis struggled offensively as they shot a dismal 28.8 percent (17-of-59) from the field, including 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from long-distance.
