BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Shannon Murphy scored a team-high 19 points as the Eagles defeated the Runnin’ Bulldogs 76-65 on Saturday night to win their fourth consecutive Atlantic Sun conference game.
After pulling ahead 4-0, in the first 1:35 of the game, the Eagles shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (10-of-30) from the three-point line, to stay ahead and hang-on to defeat the Runnin’ Bulldogs for their fourth straight conference win of the season.
With the win, FGCU improves to a 9-7 overall record (4-2 A-Sun), while the Runnin’ Bulldogs fall to 8-11 overall (4-2 A-Sun).
Four Eagles scored in double-figures led by Shannon Murphy (Brighton, Mich.) with her 19 points. For the game, Murphy made 7-of-13 attempts from the field and 5-of-11 from long-distance. She also had two rebounds and only one turnover.
Delia De La Torre (Las Cruces, N.M.) tallied 14 points. De La Torre grabbed five rebounds and dished out one assist, while knocking down 4-of-6 shots from the field.
Chelsea Dermyer (Fort Collins, Col.) and Adrianne McNally (Howell, Mich.) each finished with 13 points. Dermyer added four assists, while McNally tallied six rebounds and two steals.
Gardner-Webb was led by Margaret Roundtree's 18points and seven rebounds.
The Eagles will be back in action when they head to Campbell to take on the Camels on Monday, January 28 at 7 p.m. FGCU’s next home game will be Feb. 4 when they play host to Lipscomb in Alico Arena at 7 p.m.
