The FGCU women's basketball team dropped its second game of the season as the fell to the Stetson Hatters 77-68 in the Edmunds Center.
The Eagles fall to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the A-Sun, while Stetson improves to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference.
The Eagles once again showed their depth as four players scored in double figures. Junior Adrianne McNally (Howell, Mich.) led the way with a team-high 18 points. Junior Brittany Brown (Flint, Mich.) scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out five assists. Freshman Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio) nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Shannon Murphy (Brighton, Mich.) chipped in with 10 points.
The first half was played tough, as there were six ties in the first 20 minutes of action. FGCU built a six point lead with 4:13 left in the half, but Stetson battled back and cut the Eagles lead down to only two points as the teams went into the locker room at halftime with the score being 36-34.
In the second half the Hatters came out our aggressive and outscored the Eagles 29-15 through the first 13 minutes of the half. The Hatters would stay in control for the rest of the contest as their defense forced the Eagles into eight second half turnovers (18 total) as Stetson won by the final score of 77-68.
For the game, the Eagles shot 25-of-60 (41.7 percent) from the field and 7-of-27 (25.9 percent) from behind the 3-point line, while Stetson shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the floor and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from long range. The Hatters won the battle of the boards and out-rebounded the Eagles by five (36-31).
FGCU will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. for a matchup with UCF at Alico Arena.
