FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU women’s basketball fans, friends, students and supporters are invited to Beef ‘O’Brady’s in Estero on Monday, March 15 to take part in the Eagles WNIT celebration as FGCU women’s basketball coach Karl Smesko and his team celebrate their third consecutive automatic bid to the Women’s National Invitational tournament.
The event, which begins at 9 p.m., will also mark the kick-off of the FGCU March Madness Women’s Basketball Scholarship Drive, an effort to increase support for the FGCU women’s basketball program. All monies raised will be strictly used to fund scholarships as the Eagles women’s basketball program continues it’s transition to Division I.
“The Southwest Florida community has always shown our team such fantastic support,” said head coach Karl Smesko. “We hope to be representing FGCU and Southwest Florida in the NCAA Division I Tournament in two years. To have the best opportunity to have a magic run in March, 2012, we need to be recruiting quality student-athletes now. The most important recruiting tool by far is scholarship money. That is why this scholarship drive is so important.”
Anyone can donate by sending a check to the FGCU Athletic Department (make checks payable to FGCU Women’s Basketball), using a credit card to fill out a FGCU Foundation online giving form (https://itech.fgcu.edu/secured/foundation/giving.asp), or by calling Senior Associate AD for External Affairs Butch Perchan at 239-590-7030 (email: email@example.com)
