FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Karl Smesko has announced the signing of a student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent. Sarah Brolsma Whitfield will join the Eagle program for the 2010-11 season.
Brolsma Whitfield joins Lerrin Cook, Nicoya Jackson, Amber Rechis, Katlyn Payne, Jordan LaDuke, and Nancy Aguilar as newcomers to the Eagle program for the 2010-11 campaign.
Brolsma Whitfield, who starred at South Eugene High School, is a junior college transfer from Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. and will have two years of eligibility remaining. The 5-11 wing set a school record last season with 69 three-pointers made, while averaging 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds a game in route to earning First Team NWAACC All-Southern Region honors. She also shot 43-percent from three-point range and 80-percent from the foul line.
“Sarah is a good addition to the team,” said Smesko. “She is a versatile wing player who is a very good three-point shooter. She is also capable of taking the ball to the basket. She shot more than 120 free throws last season. Sarah is an excellent fit with our system and a very good student.”
