FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 3 spot in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening. FGCU came in at the No. 3 spot for the sixth consecutive week.
FGCU, the nation’s leader in three-point field goals made per game (11.3 per game), received two of the 31 first place votes for the second consecutive week, while Green Bay and Bowling Green, the only squads ranked higher than the Eagles, picked up 27 and two first place votes, respectively.
The Blue and Green are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in this week’s Top 25.
The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.
The Eagles (10-0 overall, 3-0 A-Sun) will put their 29-game home winning streak, which is third best in the nation, on the line on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 5:15 p.m. when they play host to the Bisons of Lipscomb (6-6 overall, 3-0 A-Sun) in conference action. FGCU is one of four undefeated teams remaining in the nation, joining the likes of No. 3 Duke (14-0), No. 6 West Virginia (14-0) and No. 8 UNC (13-0).
