Women's Basketball Earns Votes in ESPN/USA Today Poll

FORT MYERS, Fla. - One of five one-loss teams remaining in Division I (UConn, Duke, Baylor, Green Bay), the FGCU women’s basketball team received six votes to rank No. 32 in this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll that was released on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

This marks the eighth consecutive week that the Eagles have earned votes the national poll. FGCU, who leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (11.2), earned one vote last week (Jan. 24) to rank No. 41.

In their last outing, redshirt-freshman and reigning A-Sun Newcomer of the Week Sarah Hansen (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane HS) scored a game-high 18 points as the Blue and Green defeated Belmont, 67-50, in the CSS/Atlantic Sun Game of the Week on Monday night (Jan. 31) at the Curb Event Center. FGCU’s defense held the Bruins to just 50 points, which marked the 13th time the Eagles, who lead the conference in scoring defense (54.8 ppg), have held an opponent below 60 points this season.

The Blue and Green will return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they host the Spartans of USC Upstate (12-9 overall, 8-4 A-Sun) at Alico Arena. Tip is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be seen live on ASun.TV.
