FORT MYERS, Fla. - After leading the Eagles to an undefeated week with huge wins against conference foes USC Upstate and ETSU, junior Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio/Alter HS) earned Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors, for the second time this season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
For the week, Chihil, who was recently named to the 2010-2011 Capital One Academic All-District 3 Women’s Basketball first team, led the Eagles to a 2-0 record and averaged 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists, while shooting 58.8 percent from the floor and 81.3 from the charity stripe.
In the Blue and Green’s 70-59 win over Upstate on Saturday night, Chihil finished with a career-high and game-high 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, including hitting 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. Chihil also added four rebounds and three steals in 32 minutes. Just two days later, the nursing major missed a triple-double with a 13-point, 10-rebound and nine-assist performance in FGCU’s 81-65 win over ETSU in the A-Sun/CSS Game of the Week.
The Eagles (19-1, 12-1 A-Sun), who are one of four one-loss teams in Division I (UConn, Green Bay, Baylor), will head to Georgia for a two-game road trip. The Eagles will take on the Bears of Mercer (1-21, 1-12 A-Sun) on Saturday, Feb. 12 (2 p.m.), before heading to Kennesaw, Ga. to battle the Kennesaw State Owls (7-14, 4-9 A-Sun) in a Valentines Day showdown on Monday, Feb. 14 (7 p.m.).
