The Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball team will be going tropical this November as the Eagles will participate in the 2012 US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam at University of the Virgin Islands, which will take place Nov. 22-24.

Florida Gulf Coast University head women's basketball coach Karl Smesko announced on Friday that Valparaiso guard Betsy Adams (Monticello, Ind./ Twin Lakes HS/Valpo) will join the Eagle program for the 2012-13 season. Adams will have one-year of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately.

Less than three weeks after leading FGCU to its first NCAA Tournament appearance, redshirt-sophomore Sarah Hansen (McKean, Pa./General McLane HS) and senior Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio/Alter HS) were named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) Women's Scholar-Athlete Team, the organization announced on Tuesday, April. 3. The DI-AAA ADA also honored Hansen as the Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight the Scholar-Athlete Team.

The redshirt-sophomore was the lone player from the Atlantic Sun Conference to earn honors from Full Court.

With both programs coming off successful runs into March Madness, FGCU men's and women's basketball season tickets for the 2012-13 campaign are now on sale at the FGCU ticket office. FGCU was one of just 15 schools out of 344 in Division I that saw its men's and women's program advance to its respective Conference Tournament championship game.
