FORT MYERS, Fla. - After leading the Eagles to a 1-1 record during the opening week of the 2011-12 campaign, senior Nicoya Jackson (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs HS/Southwestern Christian) earned Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors, for the first time in her career, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
For the week, Jackson averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, while shooting 39.4 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from behind the arc.
In the Green and Blue’s 57-51 loss at Seton Hall, Jackson finished with eight points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Just three days later in FGCU’s 80-72 win at FIU, the criminal justice major scored a game-high and career-high 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor and 6-of-14 from long range. She also added two rebounds and a pair of assists in the win.
The Eagles (1-1) return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 19 when they welcome No. 25 Michigan State (1-1) to Alico Arena for the 2011-12 home opener. Tip is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
