Women's Basketball Ranked No. 14 in Mid-Major Top 25

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 14 spot in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening. The Eagles started the season ranked No. 8 in the preseason mid-major poll.

Green Bay, Gonzaga, Princeton, Marist and Toledo are the top five teams in the poll.

The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.

The Green and Blue are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in this week’s Top 25.

In their last game, a road matchup against FIU (Nov. 14), the Eagles got a career-high performance from reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Nicoya Jackson. Jackson scored a game-high and career-high 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor and 6-of-14 from long range.

The Eagles (1-1) return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 19 (7:05 p.m.) when they welcome Michigan State (2-1) to Alico Arena for the 2011-12 home opener. FGCU will be presented with their 2010-11 A-Sun championship watches and their 2011 WNIT banner will be unveiled in a ceremony prior to the game against the Spartans.
