FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 4 spot, for the second consecutive week, in the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening (Dec. 20).
Green Bay, Delaware and Gonzaga are the three teams ranked higher than the Eagles in this week’s poll.
The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.
FGCU is the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in this week’s Top 25.
In the Green and Blue’s last game (Dec. 19), sophomore Sarah Hansen (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane HS) scored a game-high 23 points as the FGCU women’s basketball team gave Coach Karl Smesko his 300th career victory with a 77-53 win over USC Upstate in front of 1,236 fans at Alico Arena.
The Eagles return to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 21 when they host the Hokies of Virginia Tech (3-7 overall, 0-0 ACC). Tip is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
