Women's Basketball Remains Ranked No. 3 in Mid-Major Top 25

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 3 spot, for the fifth consecutive week, in this week’s version of the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll that was released on Tuesday evening (Feb. 14).

Delaware and Green Bay are the two teams ranked higher than FGCU in this week’s poll. FGCU trails the Phoenix by 28 points for the No. 2 slot.

The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.

The Green and Blue are one of two Atlantic Sun Conference team’s represented in this week’s Top 25. Stetson is ranked No. 22.

The Green and Blue (23-2, 15-0 A-Sun), who own the nation’s third longest winning streak (15) behind Baylor (25) and Stanford (19), will return home to host second place Stetson (21-6, 12-3 A-Sun) on Saturday, Feb. 18. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. and is FGCU’s ‘Senior Day’. FGCU defeated Stetson, 59-55, on Jan. 21 in DeLand in the first meeting.

The Eagles, who have assured themselves of at least a top-2 seed in the 2012 A-Sun Tournament, will play their quarterfinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 29. Tip-off times are still to be determined. FGCU Athletics is now offering ticket packages for the conference tournament at Mercer in Macon, Ga. Fans can get ticket booklets that include admission into every game of the men’s and women’s tournament (14 games) for $75. All tickets are general admission. Tickets can be purchased by calling the FGCU ticket office Monday-Friday, between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 239-590-7145, in person at the Alico Arena ticket office or by ordering online at www.fgcuathletics.com/tickets. Tickets through the FGCU ticket office must be purchased by 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27.
