Smesko, who just wrapped up his 10th year on the bench at FGCU, has enjoyed a tremendous run as the head women’s basketball coach for the Eagles. He was selected as the university’s first women’s basketball coach in 2001. His 10-season record at FGCU is an astounding 261-49 and his five-season record in Atlantic Sun Conference regular season matchups is 82-12.

The offensive guru, who won his third A-Sun Coach of the Year honor this season, led the Green and Blue to a 29-3 overall record (18-0 A-Sun), en route to securing the program’s ninth 21-plus win season in the 10-year program history, along with a third Atlantic Sun Conference regular season crown, an A-Sun Tournament title and the Green and Blue’s first NCAA Tournament appearance. Over the last nine seasons, the Eagles have accumulated 242 wins and 42 losses.

During the 2011-12 campaign, the Eagles led the nation in three point field goals made per game (10.7) and set the NCAA record for three-pointers in a season (342), which was previously held by the 2009-10 Morehead St. Eagles (340).
