FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team fell one spot to the No. 9 position in the seventh edition of the 2012-13 CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles were ranked No. 8 in last week’s poll.
Gonzaga, receiving votes in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll, along with Delaware, Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee and Green Bay hold the top five spots in the poll.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.
The Green and Blue, who have an RPI as low as 55 and a strength of schedule (SOS) as low as 13, are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in the Top 25 and are the only A-Sun school to receive votes in the poll.
In FGCU’s last game (Dec. 16), redshirt senior Betsy Adams (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes HS/Valpo) and redshirt junior Sarah Hansen (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane HS) both poured in a game-high 19 points as the Eagles picked up a huge, 63-56, non-conference win over Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum.
The Green and Blue (5-4) will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 19 (7 p.m.) when they take on A-10 foe Richmond (7-4) in non-conference action.
