FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team fell one spot to the No. 12 position in the eighth edition of the 2012-13 CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Wednesday night. The Eagles were ranked No. 9 in last week’s poll.
Gonzaga, receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll, along with Chattanooga, Delaware, Chattanooga, Green Bay and Toledo hold the top five spots in the poll.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.
The Green and Blue, who have an RPI as low as 60 and a strength of schedule (SOS) as low as 19, are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in the Top 25 and are the only A-Sun school to receive votes in the poll.
In FGCU’s last game (Dec. 22), senior Joyce Iamstrong (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South HS/Jefferson College) finished a team-high 12 points as the Eagles had their 16-game home winning streak snapped with a 60-53 non-conference loss to UCF at Alico Arena.
The Green and Blue (6-5) will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 28 (7:05 p.m.) when they host SEC foe LSU (8-3) in the final non-conference contest tilt before the start of A-Sun Conference play.
