FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU redshirt junior Sarah Hansen (McKean, Pa./General McLane HS) has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 4 Women’s Basketball first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Members of CoSIDA conduct nominations and voting for the All-America programs.
The District 4 team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina. To be nominated, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, a starter or important reserve and must carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
Hansen is now eligible to be selected as a member of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Hansen, a Chemistry major who has a 3.94 cumulative GPA and earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall 2012 term, has started every game this season. She leads the team in scoring (16.8), rebounding (8.2), blocks (15) and minutes (32.6) and ranks in the Atlantic Sun Conference’s top 10 in points, rebounds, field goal percentage (.465), assists (3.0), free throw percentage (.860), steals (1.7), blocks, assist/turnover ratio (1.1) and minutes. The McKean, Pa. native, who is the sixth player in program history to score 1,000 career points, currently has 1,237 points to rank third in the FGCU record books behind her former teammate Kelsey Jacobson (1,263).
Auburn’s Blanche Alverson, Jerica Coley of FIU, Amber Jones of UAB, Miami’s Stefanie Yderstrom and Cody Paulk of Georgia State join the Hansen on the Capital One Academic All-District 4 first team.
Hansen is the lone Atlantic Sun women’s basketball player to receive district honors this season.
The Eagles, who have compiled an impressive 91-12 record in A-Sun games since making the move to Division I in 2007-08, will now hit the road for a pair of conference contests. FGCU will take on the Dolphins of Jacksonville in Duval County on Feb. 2 (1 p.m.), before facing UNF at UNF Arena on Feb. 4 (7 p.m.).
